What people ask before they order
Anything not covered here, ask above. A maker reads every message and answers within 24 hours.
How long does a piece take?
Every piece takes 10–12 weeks from order to delivery, outdoor CEDAR included. Nothing waits in a warehouse: every piece is cut, built and finished to order in our workshop in Brighton, Michigan.
Do you ship, and what does it cost?
Shipping is free anywhere in the US. Destinations that can only be reached by boat, train or plane are quoted and invoiced separately.
Can you change the size, wood or finish of a collection piece?
Yes. If a piece is close but not right, we will change the dimensions, base, edge or finish rather than talk you into the stock version. Tell us the piece and what you need, and we will come back within 24 hours with options and a firm price.
Do you build fully custom furniture?
Yes. A sketch, a photo, an elevation set or just the dimensions is enough to start. We answer with material options, a shop drawing, a firm price and a delivery week, and the person who quotes your piece is the person who builds it.
What wood do you use?
Salvaged and responsibly sourced hardwoods, dried slowly and stacked in sequence until they are ready: black walnut, white oak, ash, cherry, maple, hickory and catalpa, with cedar for outdoor pieces.
What is Yakisugi, and is it the same as shou sugi ban?
Yes, they are the same technique. Yakisugi is the original Japanese name, from yaki, to burn, and sugi, Japanese cedar; shou sugi ban is the North American reading of the same characters. We char each board by hand, brush it back and oil it, so the black is the surface of the wood itself. More in our notes on the process.
How do I care for a charred Yakisugi table?
Wipe it with a damp cloth. When the surface begins to look dry, a fresh coat of oil brings it back. The char does not wear off; it is part of the board.
Can I visit the workshop?
Yes, by appointment. The shop is at 1101 Rickett Rd, Brighton, Michigan. Call (810) 887-9950 or send a message above to arrange a time.
Do you work with interior designers?
Yes. Our trade program takes 10% off list on every piece and commission, with no minimum order, no annual volume and quotes within 24 hours. See For Designers.
Is ROHN Studio the same company as TRH Furniture?
Yes. TRH Furniture became ROHN Studio in October 2026. Same family, same workshop, same way of building; only the name, the mark and the website are new.
